Managing Director – Accounts and Public Affairs

Position Overview:  Reporting into the President, this role is key to supporting the growth of our clients business by building relationships advising clients and collaborating with internal teams based on data and insights.  The candidate must be able to manage C-Level clients and understand the objectives of our clients programs and its impact on their business. They must be able to build, plan execute and provide expert counsel to achieve clients business and communications goals. They must oversee client budgets, business strategy and be accountable for client and company profitability and effectively lead teams on complex client communications and marketing strategies. They must be able to lead the establishment of a new market growth office and generate new business development efforts and identify emerging opportunities to identify greater value for our clients. They must lead communications, community engagement and media relations strategies that promote and execute on our clients and our agencies goals. They must provide advisory techniques that positively impact clients. Critical thinking skills are a must. The candidate must be a highly motivated, positive, organized self-starter who can work well with a variety of tasks and adapt quickly to different business needs and projects. From day one, the candidate must be accountable, detail and task oriented, and able to deliver valuable, accurate and professional results and communications on time.


Account Management & Business Development

  • Business development, particularly in the Indiana, central and southern Illinois markets. Focus on the Agri-business and Education markets. Work in partnership with SVP to develop and support a business development strategy for the Agency.
  • Lead the State of Indiana office development and growth for the Agency.
  • Serve as the direct link between the Agency and the client, managing and/or supporting day-to-day affairs and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate and direct internal cross department teams to effectively execute campaign creative, digital, content and web strategies.
  • Oversee client budgets, business strategy and be accountable for client and company profitability and effectively lead teams on complex client communications and marketing strategies.
  • Build long-lasting, mutually beneficial relationships with external contacts.
  • Understand and determine priorities, effectively manage time and develop work plans in order to accomplish tasks and/or projects across all relevant departments which need to be engaged. (Creative, Account teams, Web, Digital, etc.)
  • Review data analytics, reporting and analysis of paid, earned, and shared media across assigned clients and for the agency itself as needed.
  • Ensure creation and delivery of effective content and partnership opportunities to support client goals including those related to targeting underserved markets, consumer education and behavioral change strategies.

Community Engagement & Media Relations

  • Be a lead on the development of the EV + Energy Workforce Academy and partnership between TCCI, Richland Community College and DCC Marketing building STEM career pathway programs and workforce development programs for the EV, Energy and Ag-Related Industries.
  • Assist with Grant writing and public policy programs and opportunities between DCC and TCCI. Work directly with the President on key Federal Initiatives and Governmental Relations work nationally.
  • Develop and execute community engagement strategies for clients that align with their goals and values.
  • Build relationships with community stakeholders, including local government agencies, non-profit organizations, trades and labor and community leaders. Including leading focus groups, SWOTs and industry stakeholder sessions.
  • Identify opportunities for the organization to contribute positively to the community through philanthropic initiatives, volunteer programs, or other means.
  • Plan and coordinate events, sponsorships, and other activities to increase the organization’s visibility and reputation within the state, and key growth sector landscape.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the organization in community settings, advocating for its interests and values around workforce development, manufacturing, sustainability, economic and agribusiness technology. As well as in the areas of
  • Manage media relations, including responding to media inquiries, arranging interviews, pitching stories to journalists.
  • Leading relationships with journalists, organizing conferences and events, coordinating interviews, monitoring media coverage, and working in partnership with content team on press releases, media pitches etc.
  • Managing crisis communications and providing media training to key spokespeople and executives to ensure effective communication to media.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate external and internal MEDIA / PR / COMMS strategies that support client and company operational goals.


  • Review and interpret performance results and clearly communicate and recommend advancement strategies with account teams and client directly.
  • Ability to Audience map and understand behavioral personas for targeted strategies particularly in the multicultural markets
  • Ability to analyze trends in economic development, workforce development, manufacturing and key sectors for growth opportunities.


  • Be responsive with communication while managing multiple projects. Be available for clients in a high demand position.
  • Be professional with all communication and build relationships across teams within the agency
  • Effectively participate and contribute as a member of a work group team

Industry Knowledge

  • Always be learning: reading relevant blogs and articles, attending training sessions, talking to experts and taking an interest generally in what is going on around you
  • Be plugged in to new trends and developments across the industry and particularly within the clients sector
  • Understand the different types of available and emerging media, particularly online, including constraints and opportunities presented by each


  • Outstanding communication (both written and verbal), organization, and time management skills
  • Expertise in integrated marketing strategies, advertising technology solutions and ad network business model
  • Ability to solve problems positively, quickly and creatively while adapting to change
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of the social advertising platforms including a deep understanding of campaign setup
  • Knowledge of media outlets, audience behaviors, and content strategies that strengthen campaigns across all channels
  • Experience with digital analytics and online reporting tools
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow through
  • Ability to multitask, organize and prioritize projects effectively
  • Capability to work proactively under pressure in a deadline-driven environment, understand customer needs and build relationships


  • Bachelor’s degree in business or marketing communications
  • 10+ years experience
  • Understanding of content marketing platforms and strategies
  • Experience and understanding with digital analysis—CTR, PPC, and related integrated marketing strategies
  • Experience using social media, mobile and paid platforms, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Google
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel


  • Decatur, IL Headquarters Preferred but will consider Chicago, IL Office
  • 8:00am-5:00pm Monday – Friday
  • Hybrid: in-office 3 days per week / remote 2 days per week
